I feel like if I wanted if I had kids and I had and I wanted to, like get a Grinch for you when their birthday Morrison, I will know that's the one you would get because that'll be the crackhead that dresses like the Grinch. Correct. I don't know if that's what happens in white families. I know. There's always we hired the crackhead to be Ronald McDonald. Really? sound you just want to go back and get my$20 go take off the damn makeup first. Stop scaring the kids. Stoke that fire burning bright. We're gonna have some fun tonight. Sit on down around the tree! Story time for you and me! We're a couple of chestnuts. We're a couple of chestnuts. We're a couple couple of chestnuts. Well, hello, and welcome to a couple of chestnuts. This is the first episode Whoo. Oh, should I say whoa, whoa, nice. You know, I like that. You can't say well, because it's Christmas time because you know, so you're gonna say, Oh, no, I understood what you were doing. I don't have to go into it. All right, this episode is all about Christmas movies. Yes, I love Christmas movies. Who doesn't and you knew we were going to talk about it. So why do you act surprised? this audience sorry. Okay, so let's get right into it. top three favorite movies, but I want to do in a fun way. Will each say one? Okay. All right. But we'll do like a 123. Just because I really don't know what you're gonna say. I know one of yours, I think but I don't know. Exactly. I'd like to just, yeah, well, okay. Okay, so on the count of three. Say one of your favorite Christmas movies that you have to watch and you're only doing a top three reading top three. gacha 123. The Santa Grinch with Jim Carrey. Okay, good. Okay, want to start off the Santa Claus? Yeah, the Santa Claus with Tim Allen. 100%. Okay, it's not it's not even up there for you? Not at all. Not at all. I asked why. I was asking you why you like Santa Claus. Because it's a family movie. Like it's it's great. I love the message of it. I think it's cool that it's not like actually about about Santa. Like, it's like about something like becoming Santa. Yeah. What isn't the story like? Like, it's like that, like, pretty cliche, like, bad dad. And he has to become a better dad. And so yeah. Yeah, that cliche story of a bad dad that kills Santa Claus and has to become Santa Claus. But you've seen it 1000 times he killed Santa Claus doesn't get No he doesn't kill Santa Claus. But Santa Claus dies. Santa Claus died. He falls off the roof. And he goes, that's what the movie is about. Yeah, I mean, I you serious? I'm pretty sure. I Oh my God. That's so dark. Well, no. I mean, Well, yeah, but it's normal. I feel like it's Christmassy. I feel like that should have been one of the first musical Christmas Christmas musicals to come to Broadway then they shouldn't turn that into a musical A long time ago. The Santa Claus in makes it's so that's drama. That's drama, but nobody wants to draw money now they do want now they do not want drama. All right. So my dear Santa Claus. My one of mine is the Grinch as well. So okay, I can understand we can talk about that one. Yeah, I feel like everybody's is made Christmas Martha Lou. Martha may Martha my goodness gracious. You can't even call it your favorite movie if you don't know the line. Okay, first of all, can I do my Grinch? Yes. foxrock bottoms out of pity for a 30 share into the rubbish power talk chavon hunger. No one party chatter shy sick steady dinner with me on cancel out again. Seven o'clock. Russia with my self loathing. I'm both I love it. Oh my god. Okay, see it. Here's the thing. I cuz I was super super, super excited. When I found out they were getting ready to make a new Grinch was that last year or two years ago now? We had a cartoon. Yeah, the cartoon one. I was like, oh, new Grinch. And I thought it was a cartoon. I was like, all right, whatever. Like get over it Manny like your little brothers sisters and love it. And then they were like, oh, Tyler the creator's do the music and I was like, Oh, I didn't know that. Yeah, I started the Creator. He's the guy who did all the music for it. And I was like, Oh, totally creators doing all the music. Cool. Boom. Can't wait to hear it. And that joke was wack, bro. I didn't see it. It was so bad. It was Benedict Cumberbatch. I don't know why they chose an actor but he's, I wouldn't say he's funny, but Okay, here's the thing. Is the Grinch supposed to be funny though. So, okay, so I mean, that's a that's a great right big bull I think the Jim Carrey version goddess like in he is funny who was like the Grinch is supposed to be yeah that like it made sense exactly fit together kind of like when Jim Carrey played the Riddler is like from then on the Riddler has to be this particular person that makes sense. So Jim Carrey has changed the game for a lot of characters. Sorry guys. Have you seen? Um, we talked about this I know you haven't. The the new Grinch there's a new green musical. I don't know what you're talking about on Broadway. Matthew Morrison is playing the Grinch. It's over in the UK. I'm pretty sure okay, but they're airing it. It's gonna be the or that's what it is. They're airing it. It's the new like live musical on TV on NBC. Oh, yeah. Okay, so I just wanted to show you what he looks like. And just I think this is the right clip. So I'm going to show you this real quick. Oh my god. I know. Oh my god. That's scary, bro. I know. And then so during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, he did this like, like teaser like come see it. But he gave nothing to it. There was no voice there was he was just like a cool guy that was like hey, I'm the Grinch come see it. It and the internet like blew up like everyone's like 2020 has been enough. Please don't do this to us now with the Grinch as well. Matthew Morrison playing the Grinch. I am not looking forward to it. But do you think this is based off the Grinch that they do at Universal? Is it you know because the universe No no, not not that team at all. Because the universal one they go off of Jim Carrey is How the Grinch Stole Christmas so they do it as Jim Carrey like it's the same makeup as the Jim Carrey stuff. This one it's like it's trying to be its own thing, I guess. And like, I understand the minimalistic thing because like with Beetlejuice, like Alex, Brightman did like the minimalistic look of like the he didn't look like the movie one. He looked like like he did like the green hair. Right. Right. And like, and like the modernizing? Yeah, the model. Yeah. That looks poor. I feel like if I wanted if I had kids and I had and I wanted to, like get a Grinch for you. And I will know that's the one you would get because that'll be the crackheads that dress up like the bridge. Correct. I don't know if that's what happens in white families. I know. Oh, always. We hired the crackhead to beat Ronald McDonald Really? broke. Sound you just want to know if I can get my $20 now. Yeah, go take off the damn makeup first. Stop scaring the kids. So what's Uh, what's your second movie. Oh, hold on. I gotta think about it. Okay, here we go. 123 Elf Home Alone. Okay. Gonna do that. All right, I'll start off this time. Okay, it's home alone one. First of all, because we got to be very specific. I'm alone. One is my favorite movie because this is the first time I think in my life. I related to a character so hard. Like as where you left home on Christmas all the time. Like I was. I was left home all the time, because I was homeschooled all my life. So if my mom or dad if my dad was at work, and my mom had something to do, it was just like, me and my little brother. You know, for like a long time at least. Yeah, I guess it would just be there. And obviously, did you have robbers come in and we had crack heads. It's like it all comes down to the crackhead. Lizard. Couple of crackheads. That's our new anyways, um, that's funny. Um, anyways, yeah. So you know, I was home alone all the time. It was just me and my little brother. And obviously kids imaginations you know, we sit there and like try to figure out different ways we could protect the house totally. So we literally go around our house making traps booby traps all the time brothers like all we would do did you make your own or did you try to copy what Kevin we all listen bro? Like? Okay, we had ings you don't see this, I think until number three homeloan three, which nobody should watch. Homeland three is where he had the RC remote control car and it was a new kid it was a different kid. So it's not the same move made everybody upset. But that was the one though where he had the RC remote control car and we have remote control cars. Okay, he also made like a really cool map of his house and like where all the booby traps were. And so me and my little brother would do the same thing we would have like a big piece of like construction paper and we'd like draw each room and be like this has to happen here and that has to have been here that's literally act like people were robbing the house. Just like get the traps to work you know we've been cool you guys like take turns like someone runs the house and the other person has to try to break in and like see if the things work out it would have we would literally would have killed each other because these were like deadly traps. Like they were like we're not these we're not travelers that like kids should have been making by any means. That's fair. It'll be it literally be like oh yeah, so now we're gonna do is all the gallons of bottles of water that Mom has, like, we have like the, you know, the gallon, like, we're gonna get jugs of water. We're gonna put ropes around them and then put them at the top of the door just so when it opens it falls down. Yes. like legit like we'd be like that's very Kevin McAllister. That's very Kevin McAllister. Yeah, no, it was very, very Kevin McAllister, I like the second one better. The second, I will adopt him. I'm just trying to figure out like, Why? Because it's in New York. I think it's more it's special. And we are in New York right now. You got I don't know if you guys can hear it on here. But there are sirens right now. And that always reminds me of I know I'm in New York when I hear sirens. Because they're happening all the time. Right. I like the second one more because it's, it's in New York. I've always loved New York. And I love Duncan's toy chest. I love that story. I felt like because in the first one, he had like the shovel guy, the next door neighbor, the creepy guy, which I get and that was the bird lady in the second one. But then there was this added like Duncan's toy chest like heart moment that I really, really enjoy. And then Tim Curry and Rob Schneider. Like they were brilliant. Now. The babies change their name. That was funny. I love I do like that one a lot more. And I like the contraptions in the second one, he had to be a little smarter. And like the like Marvin, Harry had to figure things out a little more, you know? If not, they all grew just a little bit. Just a little bit. I love I love the second one. But I mean, the first one is great, too. So also the music and home alone is amazing. Oh, the video you just posted that. Catherine O'Hara doing it. The second one too. Yeah, that is the better one. I will say because the first one she just is on the plane. She looks up she's like, Yeah, but this one she has to like go through the emotion right in the face. And who she does the faint Oh my gosh. Brilliant. Catherine O'Hara, I really just love her give general. Same shout out to Catherine Yes, Catherine if you want to be on the show. love to have you on here. You know where to find This. This? What was the movie? I said? Oh, elf. I mean, elf i think is now a staple. I feel like it is for so many people. I and I'm sure these these charts and graphs and stuff exists somewhere. But elf and Grinch Jim Carrey is the Grinch. I feel like are the two like most popular Christmas movies now. Hmm. Would you agree? Yep. I think I would. And then like you have like, like for the older generations. I think it was always the Christmas story. You know, I've never seen Christmas movie. No, no Christmas Story of Christmas. I've never seen a Christmas story. You know, it was because they played it. 24 hours on like Christmas Eve for like 20 you know what I mean? There was like that one station. ABC Family. I think they would play it. 24 hours on Christmas. Yeah. Like not on Christmas Day. I think it would be like on Christmas Eve they will just play that movie all day long. First of all, shout out to whoever the people are in that movie because they were making sink money like crazy all day, every Christmas Fun fact since we were talking about elf as well. Do you know the kid in a Christmas story was one of the Elves in elf? Really? Yes. That's funny. Yeah, they wanted to bring back that like, like have that little easter egg type of way. Was that was he one of the Elves? Like he wasn't the elf that was in the bathroom? Right? No, he's he was like the head elephant charge. But not Bob Newhart not okay. But like the the other guy once you see it, you'll go back. Yeah, and rewatch it. Class funny. Yeah, I just I love elf. I think it's funny cuz the story wasn't for me. Like it wasn't. That wasn't our agenda. It's not my type of movie. also gain a crazy crush on a new girl. Oh, so additional. Yes. Oh my gosh. In that movie, especially when she was really cats. No, she wasn't singing a song. Yes, but she was in the bathroom. Yes, absolutely. He goes, you know? I love that part. It's great. Oh, I love Yeah, it's full of heart and just it knows what it is. You know? And that was um, another that was about john being a debt bad dad to try to figure out Christmas. Oh my god. You're right. Have you ever seen the movie jack frost yes, I do remember that that also had Tim Allen in it. Nope. It was not that's a Santa Claus three that had jack frost in Yes. Well Martin Short as Yeah. Which is great. That was a go see I love I could watch I like how they progress the story in I mean, obviously I love Home Alone One and two, three and on can eat a bag of chestnuts. But but the the three Santa Claus movies, they progress the story so well. That it all made sense. Yep. All right, one more Hallmark Christmas movie and I won't go into details now. It can't be one we've already said right? Dang, I guess not elf would have been my other one. Probably Home Alone too would have been my other one. Okay, so I think our third and what that we both agree on this one we can say it at the same time because we just watched it. And we go 123 Django Django exam 100 eggs or Sally rose shout out to my man Forrest Whitaker. Yep. Okay, first of all, who knew that he could sing? I mean, I'm sure it was dolled up a little bit. Maybe. But second of all, who knows? He couldn't dance either. The whole dance scene with snow balls he was off be clapping. I know. But that I love those. I yeah. Oh my god. I love that dance. That little that scene? That girl? The one who plays journey. Mm hmm. She's my new favorite like person and she's 12 years old stupid the way she's saying yes, that song bro. And let me say the line because it gives me chills. The square root of impossible is possible. In me in me. I'm literally tearing up right now is thinking is so magical. It really is. It really is. And it's also like my favorite moment in the movie. Oh, I can now I can hear the song is awesome. Yeah, she doesn't go up. Oh, yeah. No, it's right at the end. She doesn't go up and I that Bob? That's the one thing that Oh, no, here's the thing. Okay, so me and my friend Chanel, were talking about this. She was like, I like that song. As if she's a vocal teacher. She was like, I like that song. Because a lot of young girls are going to want to sing it. And it's in their range is written for a child's voice. And you can hear that it's written for a child's voice. Yeah, instead of it being written for a certain child's talent. That makes sense. Yes, that 100% makes sense. Yeah. And john legend wrote the music a lot of the music for it was a writing team. But john lennon was a part of that writing team, which was interesting. There was only one song in that, that I really disliked and felt completely out of place. Okay, hold on. Before you say it. I want to try to guess it. Okay, I don't know. The work song. Is the song at the end. Oh, yeah. Like, well, I thought that was kind of very low. What exactly, I was like, why did they put this old slave song here at the very end of the movie, first of all, and then that's the song you're going to use to feature the only time we get to hear an economic rose all the time, we get to hear her sing in the whole movie. And y'all give her that song? I know. I didn't like that. That's the one time I think and what did I talk to you about? I feel like the reason why I love that movie so much, is that it's a magical Christmas movie with black people as all the leads and all the characters. And it's not about them being black bigs. Thank you. And as and I think that's why I dislike that song because all of a sudden, it was like, it looks like now we have to be black. Here's a Black Sabbath song truly. There we go. Whoo. That was a chain gang. So I do I agree that it felt very out of place. I think there could have been a different choice. I think what they wanted to do, especially because it was based in LA. I couldn't tell was it based in London, they never said that. Well, I think like, except for Forest Whitaker in the little girl and Keegan, Michael Kagan, but everybody else had a British accent. It was very eye but I think it's that like that whole. It was just a magical different world that it doesn't have to be sitting anywhere. It was just a holiday where black people are named erotic is like, Listen, okay, and I'm just gonna say this, and I will let it go. But I feel like the right hand table for that there was like, what's the blackest Christmas name we could come up with? And they was like, it's gotta be close to Jerome. It's like gerada I was like, Yo, I really can't. I can't believe somebody sat down. It was like, ironic is Django. Yeah, that's good. That's the one somebody was like, yeah, Jerome and Django. How can we combine them? That's what they did. demonic is Jake Busey. I really like that name. No, of course you do. Of course. Like That was a fun thing. I was like, germanicus I haven't heard that before. And that's, and I always wanted my name to be Kyle. But listen. I love that. I do love journey. I think that's a great name. The fact that they all had j names was Veronica his journey and her mom, Jessica. Jessica. I got you. Yeah, yeah, that was cool. Also shout out though. Anika Noni rose. She was so gorgeous in that movie, too. And Felicia, Rashad? Oh my gosh. Okay, what about the low Urkel character in love him love that character so much. I think it's such a necessity. And then I love that it was a little moment between like, I really liked you a lot. A lot. Oh, it was and I love that he doesn't have perfect teeth. I love that I was great. I love that because everyone had a chance to Like see someone that they can relate to and that's what I love about like all like, everyone looking different now I love the little white girl that started doing the African dance through. I was like Tara. She was going. Yes, like truly I love that. Yeah, I loved I loved it. I loved it. So so it was great. All right, bottom three. Let's go. Alright, this can be quick. bottom three. I'm gonna put a Christmas Story down there. Okay. My bottom three. And I don't even know how I found this movie. But it's called the night before Christmas. And it's nightlight k in it. He did he? Yeah, you watch that at Kevin's place, right. Oh, yeah. I was watching that at Kevin's place. Yeah, yeah. It since he's here. He saw it as well. He's Oh, yeah. Kevin, you wanna you want to tell them? Do you guys know we have Kevin Hart in the studio? in my studio apartment. And Kevin, if you could just tell all the all the folks listening. what the story is about? Oh, man. Um, oh, that's crazy. It's crazy. Because I was expecting y'all to have me talk today. First of all, what's up people? How's everybody doing out there and listening land? Here we go. So Manny came over to this place. And I said Manny, what are we gonna watch? He was like, on our note, Kevin, I think we need to watch a new Hallmark movie. I said hallmark movies at Hallmark movie. I said, Okay, Ben, he said, Ben, I said bed. I said what are we gonna watch? He said there's a new movie with Vanessa Hudgins. Manny has always had a crush on Vanessa Hudgens since I can remember him ever since ever since he was little ever since he was little. Ever since he was little he always did. Anyway, the movie itself is dumb. I'm gonna tell you why it's dumb. It's dumb, because it's a movie about a night that has to find the true meaning of being a knight and by falling in love in the future. Now, what does that mean? That means he meets old lady The old lady comes through she's like, bomb. Ah, I'm thinking to the future. You don't know how to be a knight. Go learn how to be a knight. He goes Wow. And I wasn't ready. And then he gets thrown into the future. But that's how this is like, um, what are you doing? Why you got all this armor on kind of heavy? He's like, yeah, I'm gonna be kind of heavy on you. I'm gonna be heavy on you. Boom. Then he stayed up Vanessa Hudgens place in the movie, all of a sudden, he realizes that the true meaning of being a knight is falling in love with Vanessa Hudgens. That is literally how the movie ends. How does that make you feel, Kevin? I'm gonna tell you what, Jonathan and a man to piss me off. The reason that pissed me off is because I spent two hours watching that movie, thinking that this man was gonna go back and be kickin ass. And he never was. Never did. Okay, Kevin, thank you so much for being here. No problem, john. Really, really appreciate it. So nice to have you in the studio. Good luck on everything coming up your specials pretty good. Thank you. Thank you. I appreciate you. Yeah, you guys go watch my new special on Netflix right now. All right, go ahead, man. Here you go. Oh, Kevin is so funny, bro. Kevin is so funny. What a jokester. Huh, so so funny. God what a good poll. Thank you, Yelp. Appreciate you guys. Stepping up just yeah. I watched it happen. You're here. I was doing that for the people listening because hands down. Um, I think let's see what else what else we have to talk about. I know your other Christmas movie. Let's try to guess another question that we don't mind like, yeah. I got one for you. Well, I know which one you don't like. We talked about it once. Polar Express. Oh, I do not. That's so great. Maybe I've only seen it once. I didn't like the animation. Yeah, I just I just thought was very creepy. And I think they could have done it on the Polar Express. They love the music that I love the music. I guess I just didn't give it enough of a chance. Ah, ah, that's from that. Yeah, he's right, exactly. Speaking of Josh Groban, Christmas type movies, um, other Christmas movie that I personally don't like, oh, man, and now now would escape my head right now. But it's Oh, it's the new sister Scrooge's movie that came out with Jim Carrey. Thank you. Thank you. I never saw that. wasn't good. I heard that's why. That's why you didn't that's why you didn't hear? I don't know why I just felt Josh Groban on that. I think it's the classic film. That's how the music felt too. So my bottom two cars are no cars so Polar Express Christmas story. And then the third one for me is going to be any Hallmark Christmas movie. Yeah. Which is I feel bad saying that because my mom is probably the number one biggest Hallmark movie fan. She had the Hallmark wine. She literally has bottles. of hallmark movies, holiday movie wine, she has pajamas, that's a hallmark movie like she's got. She's got mugs, she's got the glasses, she's got everything. she's obsessed with it. I hate those movies. They're so unrealistic. They are so cheesy can be a I would probably agree with you is any Hallmark movie at this point? That um, is Christmas related lifetime Christmas movies. hate it, it definitely don't like those. I'm not really I'm not really a fan of. I mean, growing up black, obviously, we have to watch the Christian movies where it's like, the grandmother is about to die. And now we all have to come to the house before grandmother dies and work out all of our family problems. Like that's all. Yeah, that's always like, What movie is that? This Christmas? That was? That was one with Chris Brown in it. And it was a long time ago. It feels like but that was always like how those movies went. Is jingle jangle the first, like, magical Christmas movie like not about like real life? Like, yeah, with black people. Yeah, the leads. I feel like it is I don't know any other Christmas movies. I mean, the little girl from bowler expresses black. Okay, cool, but it was hard to hear doesn't count. But no, but that that's huge. Not literally, she is very important that that it's 2020. And this is the first time I think that is I mean, obviously great because it's happened. But like, it's insane. And we can talk about that. The truth of the matter is, when you think about Christmas, you think about what first? What's the first thing you think about when you think about Christmas? Santa Santa? How does Santa look? Oh, no, no, that's good. We'll talk about it. He's a white beard. white haired tan. Okay, are you tan Jonathan? Right now? Are you doing the right style? No, I'm not saying during the winter talk. But Santa is in the North Pole. But during the summer. You think about white people. That's that's what I'm getting. I'm not gonna go through this. And anytime you think about white people in regards to anything, when you start looking at the, the media that surrounds it, obviously that's gonna be like the first thing we see too. So it's not, it's insane. But it's not too insane, either. Because when you think about 2020 that's all we've known about Christmas before this. You know what I mean? It's just been a year of evolution. I think the other aspect though, is that, um, black folks. And in general, in the south, especially, there's very Christian people, you know what I mean? And like so Christmas has always been centered around religious religion. Yeah, exactly. And it's like, we don't get Christmas presents, because it's about Jesus being born. I get that. I mean, I don't get like, that wasn't I like that? No. I mean, we went to mass but like, religion wasn't a huge part of it at all. And my mom was Jewish. Was and then yeah, now she's not in like, so religion was very muddled. Who was never about the religion ever. Yeah, not that that makes sense. So I guess the bottom line is black people believe in Jesus and white people don't know. Yes. And so if you take anything away from white people are going to hell Wait, wait. That's what we're taking away from? Is that what we're trying to say? Many black people are going to happen because they believe in Jesus and white people believe in Santa Claus. You know what that sound means? That is the end of our episode. I just want to thank Kevin Hart for being here, Kevin. Thanks so much. Love you, man. All right. Well, thanks so much.
